It almost seemed to me that dad wanted us to grow up as warriors. He taught us how to fight at a very early age. I mean I do not remember not play fighting with him and Chuck. He taught us all sorts of moves, like head locks, half nelsons, and scissors with our legs. Fighting was a very natural thing. I recall once, after “Walt”, that’s what mom called him, was deployed to Hawaii to prepare for his duty in Vietnam, we had a little fighting treat. It featured Chuck, and some random kid that walked by our house on Flamingo Court, when we lived on the Marine Corps compound at Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station. I always liked the name of that place, it really seemed important.

Anyway, for some reason we heard a commotion outside. We all piled into the parents room.  By “all” I mean Dad, Mom and mean. Oh yeah, by this time we had another addition to the family. Joey. He was named after his dad, Walter Joseph. His dads name was Walter, yet Joey does not remember much about his dad. Yet, he ended up with all his service medals, and the flag they used in his burial when he was KIA (killed in action) in Vietnam in 1966. He was younger and smaller, and Chuck and I didn’t pay that much attention to him, because we were “out the door” as much as possible. In Hawaii, it is THE THING TO DO when you are a kid! The beaches, the fishing spots. Ah, but I digress…

So, we are all on mom’s bed looking out the window, and we see Chuck! there is this kid that is looking like he is giving him a hard time. I got up and was heading out the door to go intervene. But, dad said, no! Let’s see what happens. So, there was Chuck, who was a pretty sensitive kid in my opinion, with a brute of a guy out there in front of the house. He was trying to pick a fight with Chuck. Chuck was not trying to start anything, but he also wasn’t backing down, and trying to run away either. Ahh, so now I was beginning to understand. Dad wanted to see how Chuck handled himself, at the age of 9!!!

What happened next was truly amazing to me. The kid, who was bigger than Chuck, and obviously more daring, grabbed Chuck around the torso. They struggled a minute, then the kid grabbed him from behind trying to force him to the ground. Now I can say, that even at that time, Chuck was a little stout, or was sorta chunky but not fat. Well, he had a little weight on him anyways, I was the skinnier of the two of us. So, this kid has Chuck in some sort of hold from behind, then, Chuck flips him! Chuck flipped the kid literally over his head and he landed on the ground hard! Chuck, leaned down, although I am sure he was astonished like the rest of us at what had just happened, and put his knee on the guys chest. He told him to , “Get outta here, and don’t come back”! Wow!

That was the first time I was both amazed at my brother and proud at the same time. Everyone in the bedroom was astonished, and mom clapped and said Yay Chucky! Dad, quieted us all down and said, Shhh! Act like nothing happened! Don’t let him know that we watched. Chuck, came in, got a drink of water, and he said to me, you ready to go down to the golf course? And that was that. There was no mention of his heroic beat down of a local trouble maker. But, I was proud of my brother.

When we left though, there were those peculiar clouds of smoke that seemed to hang in our house like clouds do and a windless day. We didn’t think that much of this. But by this time the Surgeon General had come out with a warning about cigarette smoking that I had heard. I remember many times asking both my mom and dad to quit smoking because of this. I could not help remember that a few years earlier, our family was over at friends, and the dad in that family, with his wife sitting right there, told us that his wife was diagnosed with cancer. He told us this while every one was truly puffing away on Pall Malls at the time. We all thought it was very sad. It was like there was nothing that really could be done. It was hopeless. And yet, the waves of smoke clouds built in the house.

Really in the 60′s and before, people didn’t have that much air conditioning. Most of the cooling at that time was done with fans. So, smoke would build up in houses, and really linger a long time. I can really see this as causing lots of second hand cancer.

I can remember way back, it was the very early 60′s. My mom and dad had a great life with friends. They would occasionally socially drink, go out with friends and smoke cigarettes like chimneys. Smoking seemed like an odd thing to do. I really did not get it. Breathe in smoke, breathe it out. So, what is the big deal?

A kid just cannot fathom what is really going on here, and apparently the grownups either. It was just a gay old time. Cigarette use was plastered all over ever new movie that came out, and on all the commercials it seemed. it was an accepted thing to do. Now, it almost seems like mass hysteria. That is until you realize that cigarettes contained extremely addicting substances. When you are a non addict, then get addicted to something, you think it is because you like it. You think maybe you love it, and can’t live without it. You can’t imagine not smoking.

That is what addiction sounds like though. But, for people who are otherwise non addicts, it doesn’t seem like you are addicted to smoking. You realize that you simply can’t wait to smoke another cigarette. That is how you see it. That is because well everyone is doing it, and why analyze it?

I remember, back when my parents started smoking. Dad was in the Marine Corps, and mom had 2 kids. She was a bit of a kid herself really. It was 1962. I was 7, my brother Chuck was 6 and my mom was in her 20′s. She did a lot of things I liked. She made amazing peanut butter cookies, and oatmeal cookies for Chuck and me. Chuck was an amazing brother for me. He and I were only 11 months apart and we were truly inseparable. Chuck and I explored every part of our world, which I will elaborate on later.

Dad also did amazing things. He would find roadside farmers selling cantaloupes and watermelons that were simply irresistible. My dad also, could go to junk yards and find parts to fix his cars. At first, i thought it was sorta “ghetto” to use a phrase from today. But, once we got to the junkyard, we had a ball! There was all kinds of stuff there. And we always found what we needed to fix the car, or anything else around the house.

He also started a small business, and sold soap! It was called Amway, and I was at first a little embarrassed to go with him out to restaurants and other places because he would strike up conversations with anybody. He was fearless. I think it rubbed off on Chuck and I. As it was, if Chuck and I got into a fight with someone, or caught a snake, or went out adventuring on our own, we would never be punished. It almost seemed like he was proud we were so adventurous. Maybe, he saw us as becoming a warrior like him.

Best Reasons to Quit Smoking

In School it doesn’t take long to hear that smoking cigarettes is bad for your health. There are actually several and very distinct processes that go on within a smokers body that they most times are not aware of. One thing that happens every puff of a cigarette is that there is total and long lasting lung cell death. The lungs do not regenerate as do most other cells of the body.

The immune system is comprimised. That means that the immune system is damaged, and no longer operates as it should. This allows chronic diseases to begin to set in such as bronchitis, pneumonia and then finally COPD. Which is short for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. This is not something you want to ever get.

The third thing that begins to happen is that cancer causers tend to build up in the pulmonary tissue and the body. It is very hard for the body to eliminate these, so most of them are carried around for your lifetime. The chemicals are redistributed in some cases all over the body. Thesecancerous chemicals are known to have the ability to break the DNA strands within cells. This causes mutations, and at time cancer. Many people are astonished that they quit smoking 20 years earlier and yet still get cancer at a later date. The only answer is to never smoke and if you do, find a way to stop immediately.

Let’s take a look at a list that is a bit more in depth to see what is going on with smokers and illness.

1. Health – There are cancer causers that can at any time give you cancer. The smoke itself causes irreversible lung damage. The body’s immune system is comprimised more and more every day. Finally leading to poor health. Additionally, smoking is related to heart attack, stroke, atherosclerosis and other health problems.

2. Smell -When you smoke cigarettes one of the first things to go is the sense of smell. That means you do not realize how badly you reek of smoking. This often times turns the opposite sex off totally. It is also not so helpful for business either. But, few people will step up and tell you how you are offending them. They will just avoid you.

3. Premature aging is a known problem with smoking. If health effects are not enough to scare off a smoker, then maybe the fact you will look 10 or 20 years older will! Maybe the anti smoking commercials should focus on wrinkles, and premature aging as the “benefit” from smoking to look forward to.

4. The days are gone when cigarettes are cool. Well, with the exception of high schoolers. But, one of the big reasons they smoke is that their parents often smoke. They have lived in a smokers envirenment for so long, with no one worried about the negative effects that they are now impervious to the consequences.

5. Money is a big reason people should consider quitting. Cigarettes in todays market are costing $6 or more a pack. Yet, the powerful need for nicotine overpowers the normal logic that would kick in and stop this behaviour. A person can easily spend $2k or more a year on smoking, to the detriment to the family.

6. Sense of taste and smell are both damaged. That means you will no longer experience the fine taste of foods that you once did. Over time this is a big loss, but often one that goes without notice.

7. Yellow Teeth is often a common occurrence. A person would need to have their teeth cleaned regularly to avoid this. In addition smoking contributes to bad breathe and gingivitis, which can cause tooth loss.

8. Stamina is also affected by smoking. It has been said that unless you are an athlete or runner, swimmer type…you would not even notice loss of lung function until it was a 50% loss. That is because most people are not that active to notice how effective their lungs are operating. This is a loss that you will never get back, because lung tissue does not regenerate. Take care of your lungs!

In addition to these reasons, many companies do not like to hire smokers. That is because they are less healthy and miss work more often. In addition they cost the health plan more because they are going to the doctor very often.

He seemed very skeptical that a video can change someones mind about anything really. I told him that there was a man that came into a lab for a checkup blood draw. They spun his blood, which makes a blood clot at the bottom of the vile and there should be a clear substance at the top of the tube. This mans was cloudy. The lab technician asked him what he ate earlier that day the man answered him. He had eaten a big hamburger and a milkshake. The technician just shook his head because it meant that fat was getting into this mans blood stream at a high rate.

What made this video even more intriguing was that this same relatively young man was back the next day with chest pains. The heart surgeons later had to cut him open to remove the substances that clogged his arteries. The surgeon and the nurses had to pull hard to get this white twig like substance out of this guys arteries, The whole time the doctor was saying how this was artery disease caused by a fatty diet.

The surgeon said  that clearly one half of Americans will die of this type of disease. That is a huge number one half! This is not acceptable. As a quit smoking coach, I know the numbers that are given for smokers are similar. It is widely believed that a full one half of smokers will die because of their smoking. This is why I have created a channel on You Tube under the name Thezannon and show sick and gross videos that make these points. You have to see this with your own eyes. Both heart disease and lung disease are hidden diseases. We might get a cough or infection, or have heart pains, but we cannot see what is wrong. These videos shed light and inform, and that is good.

There is one thing that is clear. when people smoke all the damage is on the inside and hidden within the chest. “Out of sight, out of mind” as they say. I have heard it said that if a smokers lungs were on the outside of the body in plain view, there would be a lot less smokers in the world. The damage is hidden and we don’t see it or hear about it. But, peer pressure would put an end to smoking because the damage is immediate, severe and undeniable when it comes to smoking cigarettes. So, I am very glad these videos exist, and people can see what is going on right now. I suggest everyone to take a look at least one time, at what is trying to kill most of America.

Want a good New Years Resolution? What could be better than quitting smoking? After all, quitting smoking is on the agenda of most smokers anyway. It is clear that smoking will lead to a premature death, unless of course a smoker dies of some other cause, like an accident. But generally speaking a smoker is going to die of smoking. Some people have the idea that they can smoke for a long time, then quit with no ill effects. This is not true. I have seen people who smoked and quit for 20 years still develop cancer and die. You might ask why is this? after all, I am putting lots of time between now and my last cigarette. Why isn’t my overall lung health improving as well? The answer is, true, you may not be adding to the poor condition of your lungs, but there is literally no way to clean them out. I had the opportunity to see the “Bodies” Museum exhibit in Las Vegas NV at the Luxor Hotel. They showed many dead bodies, and the organs within. I saw several examples of lungs that were used to smoke cigarettes during a persons life. When you view these lungs and their tissue, it is amazing to learn that the lungs are more like sponges. If tar for instance touches the inside, it is quite likely to ooze its way to the outside of the lung. So, not only does the inside of the lung turn black with tar, the outside does too. And  one thing I noticed, it seems like over time a lung turns to sandpaper! I guess the smoke particles get trapped in the tar.

One very interesting part of the exhibition was the ad hoc quitting of smoking by the masses that came through and saw the exhibit. I guess they were very surprised and sickened by the horrible shape that lungs get in when they are subjected to smoking. Instead of red or pink, the lungs looked like grey and black clay, and were just as hard. so, there they have installed a huge barrel where customers of the exhibit by their own volition throw away apparently good cigarettes! I bet if every smoker that reads this blog could see his/her own lungs right now, they would be very liable to throw their cigarettes in the trash, just like they did in the Bodies Exhibit at the Luxor, Las Vegas NV.  This exhibit will also travel to towns large and small, see it if you get the chance.

I know these quit smoking videos are sick. After all they show what happens to the human body due to smoking. We all know that is bad, and people die and all, but for the most part we do not see this. At least not like doctors see it, which seems to be pretty much every day.

I want everyone here to come back here and leave a post the NEXT TIME you hear anyone, (well I don’t mean like people on TV, they don’t count)…I mean in your REAL LIFE tell me when someone tells someone else they Need to cessate their smoking habit. Ok? Can you do that for me? Because this term is outrageous really. Now that I think about it, maybe I do start to see why this term might be used a lot today. The pharmaceutical companies, that by itself answers a lot of questions by itself. The advertisers and big “pharma” as they are known, know something. If they take ANY product and desensitize it, they can sell it, even on national TV!

Just think about, ….”That feminine problem,” or the need for “Male Enhancement” and you will see what I mean. Now it’s, come to us with your “smoking cessation” needs! I love it! Smoking cessation then, is in a round about way linked to such products as Chantix, which itself is a ripoff of nature. Well, it is a ripoff a compound called Cytisine I beleive. Basically soldiers out in the field in Europe especially during WWII, would find the plant that had the chemical Cytisine, and they would chew it. The compound Cytisine was similar in nature to nicotine. So, the soldiers has something like a nicotine gum or lozenge when they did this.

So a “Big Pharmaceutical company” recognized this, but they didn’t bring us the drug itself. They wanted to own it. So they go about messing with the chemical compound of cytisine, so that they can OWN IT, and SELL IT at a HIGH PRICE! So, when you want to sell it, you call it “smoking cessation.” You charge a high price, and Voila, you are in like Flynn! Except, nicotine
